Review Clarissa’s warning by Fany Van Hemelen:
A little bit spooky and a charming story of a woman who learns to believe again in a beautiful location. Can she start over again in a “cursed” ruin?
Quite a journey was this book for me. I have to be honest and it took time for me to enjoy this story. In the beginning Isobel Blackthorn is describing the wonderful Island and his locations. The book very slowly unfolds his mystery and I wasn’t thrilled by the story first. It was well-written but it didn’t get my attention. The character building was great and the atmosphere and setting of the Canarian island was fine so, I can’t explain why it didn’t grip me.
Claire is a bold and independent woman, who won the lottery and is choosing to chase her dream. This is not a glamorous life, indeed she chooses to buy an ancient ruin at the Canary Islands. In this beautiful place she can live in peace and save some old territory. Sounds simple.. Just buy the property and rebuild it. In this spooking story, nothing is what it seems and when Claire finally bought her ruin she has to fight among several threats. Nobody is happy to work here, strange incidents happen and the house could be cursed. Claire didn’t want to belief the evil is set in her house. On the contrary, even she is getting terrified she is more angry at her supposed home invaders.
After a while, I have to be fair, the narration was getting spookier and from that time I was curious to know what happened. Gladly I was surprised by some twists and anxious how the mystery was going to be solved. Was it possible to live in the house or did Claire have to admit the danger was too high or was she even hallucinating?
This story is not cruel, just a bit spooky and it’s more tempting for the assumptions they’re made then really action. The story of the unknown is woven into a story about grief, learning to trust people and open your heart to love.
At the end of the book I have to say this was not love at first side, but give the book time and I think you will like it just like me!
